Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Crawley Down on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 1.30
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won By 179 Runs

Match report Right then, hello all, this is your captain speaking. A big thank you to Seb for looking after the team for me during my absence, he has done a cracking job, if not a little slack on match reports.

Last week saw a vital win and a massive step towards safety, especially with Hartfield failing to put out a side and having a 15 point penalty. This all meant that a win against Crawley Down would secure us a place in Division 1 next year and prove a point regarding a certain incident earlier in the season. This motivation ultimately proved too strong for Crawley going into the game without anything to gain.

Winning the toss I chose to bat, and on an indifferent track our openers got us off to a fantastic start with both Joycy and Dan reaching their half centuries in excellent time. This left those following going in with an excellent platform to build on and with a quick fire 46 from Emmerson and contributions all down the order we posted a very competitive total of 242 for 4. (For those regular readers, Jon Woodman did not open this week due to American transport delays. Selectors will be meeting to discuss next weeks opening partnership).

So, with plenty of runs to play with, Edenbridge entered the field in high spirits, and early break throughs from both Hilly and Emmerson ensured a cracking start. Wickets continued to fall at a good rate, and then it was time for the returning captain to put his mark on the game, and what a mark with a wicket with the first ball. Incidently the first wicket of the season. The inevitable end came when arguably their best batsman a 13 year old was bowled and the match was won. Hurrah. Excellent bowling figures by all three bowlers with both Hilly and Emmerson claiming 4 wickets each, and the skipper helping out with 2.

This was a very sweet win indeed, and I doubt I was not the only one of us that enjoyed seeing Crawley leave with just the 2 points.

This win moves us up the table further and completely safe from relegation. Well done everyone it has been an all top team effort.

Man of the Match: Emmerson, 46 runs and 4 wickets certainly deserving.

Champaign Moment: A certain J Farley whilst bowling continued to moan about Edenbridge's lack of batting abilty, even though two players hit half centuries, only to come into bat with his team needed a top effort have only one shot and then dismissed playing across the line, haha.

Tea: A cracking tea from Mrs Hill, although as Jon mentioned setting the table up back to front did really throw us. Good sandwich fillings and a fantastic selection of cakes, therefore 8 1/2 out of 10 seems fair.

I have written this whilst watching the tele and without the use of spell check, so my apologies for the mistakes that are bound to be there Mr Cox.

Also this would not be a good match report if I failed to say congratulations to England for regaining the Ashes, come on England and fairwell Freddie, we will miss you.
