Edenbridge Cricket Club Under 15 v Speldhurst on Sun 05 Jul 2009 at 10.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won By 7 runs

Match report A really super game of cricket between two evenly matched teams who had won all of their previous matches this season.
Speldhurst appear to be an even stronger squad than last year when we had two fairly narrow wins against them.
They won the toss (Alex to practice more with Rob's two headed half crown) and put us in.
Prolific George had his first off day in a while but Adam came in and steadied the ship with Ben. Both were out for big swishes though with Alex unlucky again with a straight drive from Adam being deflected onto the stumps.
So at half way we were down to the middle order who often do not even get a bat. Only 46 were on the board after 11 overs.
Jake was out cheaply but that brought the two Kierans together, Peters and Bence. Together they put on over 60 runs in the last 8 overs. What had looked like a struggle to reach 100 had, in a whirr of flashing blades become 123 on the board. Only Speldhurst posting 3 mid-wickets stopped KP reaching 50.
After another glorious tea from Kate the boys went out to defend 123 against a team that has recently broken our own Border League scoring record (admittedly off two more overs).
A captains spell was needed from Alex and he did not disappoint. No wickets but 3 maidens and only two runs conceded put them on the back foot from the word go. The required rate began to rise, but we needed the wickets of some of the top order as Ben and Adam had to bowl near the end, one lacking confidence and the other lacking a shoulder joint.
First change Dodgson did the trick. Three wickets for 1 run in two overs. 16 balls before one on leg stump that went for four! Great bowling, but it all started when Matt clung on to a stinging cut from their opener. If it looked more a case of self defence Matt can be forgiven, it gave the team the lift it needed. Catches win matches.
Jake also managed a catch and two run-outs in a late attempt to win a second MOM award in a month.
Even Ben discovered his old confidence and removed their middle order who were now falling behind the required rate.
Looking back over the whole match one can see that several performances were critical to the success, even Matts catch turned the game. But without KP's counter attack at the end of our innings it would not have been much of a game at all, a real MOM performance.
Well done for a great all-round team performance against strong opponents.
