Groombridge v Edenbridge Cricket Club Under 15 on Sun 21 Jun 2009 at 10.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won By 61 Runs

Match report We pulled into the station at Groombridge to the puff of steam at 9.40am and we left at 1.20pm with more steam flowing from a disappointing win - high standards had been set in previous weeks and were not seen today !
With Ben Phillips back at the opening crease (following his week's hibernation) and George Bushell continuing to bat for fun, we almost saw last week's league record opening partnership beaten. But it was not to be so, with Bushell out for an excellent 43 and Phillips retiring with a superb 52. Once again, a great start had been given by the openers....but once again our follow up from the next batsmen was below par. Vickery went in search of gold but Captain Freeman did salvage a good 28 before being run out - mainly due to the total confusion of having Peters running for the injured Dodgson. After last week's mom performance from Dodgson with the bat, this week it was clear that he only had one Weetabix for breakfast and he was also eventually run out for a lowly five. We ended up losing another point by only scoring 141, but nevertheless knew this would be enough for a win.
After a short tea break, comprising of mainly tea and coffee (with nothing left by the boys to remove the hunger pains of the management), we set a field in search of glory. Three early wickets fell, with Freeman and Bushell bowling their tight four overs each for just ten runs each - Bushell taking one more wicket than his skipper and deserving the mom award (mainly for his batting). Bency came on and decided to bowl in line with last year's ability, taking one wicket and giving just six runs from his four overs. However, Groombridge were never interested in trying to win the match and every batsman was happy to just prod the ball a few feet down the wicket. In the end, Edenbridge could only take six wickets and more bowling points were dropped.
As Groombridge retired to the coalyard, Edenbridge chugged their way home thinking of what could have been.......
