Ansty III v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 20 Aug 2016 at 13:00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost by 43 runs

Match report More blooming rain, Wardy rolling back the years, JPW's catching & cover driving.

Well, the forecast was wrong & the rain came again, This time we could've done with it saving us! It was felt that stand in skipper Mr Fuller could give Fisty some lessons on calling, having won the toss again. So we inserted & Wardy rolled back the years to take the new ball. Pace, nip, bounce - well, some of it was there.
We did all right, considering we had 10 men & that only three of them were anything like mobile in the field ( no offence to Messrs Martin, Fuller, Ward, Watts & Shah).
Kingy again bowled well in another lengthy spell, picking up three wickets, including Ansty's star girly ! Mike M also bowled well & was instrumental in putting the squeeze on Ansty in the middle part of the innings when between the showers, they were going along at only 2 an over. Only one of their bats really got away from us but he had support all the way through the middle part of the innings through various partners which allowed them to get up to 167. A feature of the fielding was JPW's stunning diving catch at short mid wicket, followed up with a number of equally stunning diving stops which were worth the admission penny alone. Vijay's running at third man & fine leg also featured, especially when he was working out whether it was a left or right hand bat.
So with the rain breaks, we had 42 overs to chase down the runs. Sadly it wasn't to be. Coxy & Joycey both went early to injudicious shots, & with only 10 men that immediately put pressure on the middle order. Stand in skipper Fuller & Mike coped well with the change bowling, moving us along into the 50s before being parted, & then TF ending up on his backside after a bit of a mix up with Kingy. After that though it was largely a case how many points we could muster if the rain didn't come to our rescue. Neil "Smiddy" Smith clubbed the change bowling around for a smart 20 & then JPW showed us that he wasn't just a tidy short mid wicket but also had a classical looking extra cover drive in his locker. Again, worth the admission fee.
The innings drew to a close in the gloom with Vijay somehow laying his bat on a beamer but then missing a fizzing away swinger the next over & being stumped.
The one day we could have done with the rain, it was across the valley at Cuckfield (which you could clearly see from Ansty !).

Still a game in hand & still in with a shout though. Streat play Brunswick next week so we MUST win our game in hand against Hurst. Wardy -- -I wonder if your mate may turn out for them ?
