Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Cowfold & Lower Beeding on Sat 08 Aug 2015 at 13:00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts

For the second week in a row the coin came down the right way for Fisty Woodman. Although he didn't have to make the call, has that dodgy peseta coin come out again ? Rumours abound but your roving reporter is confident that there are no grounds for further investigation & that the bru-ha-ha is groundless.

So Fisty made the decision to send the league leaders into bat, contrary to Steve Waugh's mantra that 9 times out of ten when you win the toss you bat. On the tenth occasion you think about it for ten seconds ...... & then you bat. With "Purple Spider" Kings once again on duty with the 1s this week's new ball pairing saw Gat Fuller supporting Jimmy Witt. And what a support act. On & on he went reeling off over after over almost Hilly like. Meanwhile at the top end Jimmy steamed in with pace & venom to bowl possibly his best spell of the season. Gat got the early breakthrough with a good LBW shout following which Jimmy weighed in with two wickets in two balls at the end of his fifth over. We waited with baited breath on the next over's hatrick ball .......... only for it to be speared way down the leg side to groans from the crowd (consisting of a well tanned oppo wife & Andrew Manser). Gat went on to complete a marathon spell of 18 overs & ending with three well deserved wickets. With a couple of Martins weighing in too, some good catching by the sprightly Coxes & Jonny Watts, & Jimmy coming back to claim the final wicket we ended up bowling the league leaders out for 160. Fisty would have taken that at the start I reckon.

And so to a TC tea. Mrs C took on board & much appreciated all the comments as to catering, including those from the opposition players. Thanks also to TC for project managing the catering.

After the flapjack & muffins (several of which mysteriously disappeared towards the Fuller household later that evening) the usual opening pair went about their business in their usual manner but sadly this week could't muster the usual sort of stand. G Man stepped up to the plate with some judicious stroke play but then fell to a rather loose cover drive. But this week it was down to the middle order to put in the work, which they did admirably. Mike Martin nudged & nurdled, cuffed & swatted his way to a well paced knock but sadly fell agonisingly short of his 50. It was vital that either he or Joycey batted through to the end and Joycey was the man. With his usual expansive stroke play & his railway sleeper of a bat he powered his way to a fine 40 ably supported by Jonny Watts. Wardy, in his first comeback match of the season then grabbed the match winning runs with his first ball being smashed through mid wicket for four.
So a big 30 pointer in the late summer sunshine, putting us up to fourth in the table with three games left. With a couple of wins & results going our way we could still make a late promotion push.
