Bolney II v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 13:30
Match was Drawn

There we all were out in the middle before the game, full of anticipation. The coin went up & duly came down tails. Only problem was the skipper called heads ......again !
Cox & Woodman started us off again against a very young & angry attack ! Sadly it wasn't to be their day for once: Woodman departing early to the angry young Bowles, Joyce & Cox following soon after. At 99 for 5 we were struggling. But then Dan Martin showed what a good young batsman he can be. Playing straight, hitting the bad ball, playing the better balls &, above all, listening to Jon Boy. On & on they went both getting to their 50s despite one or two alarms on the calling & running front !! Great knocks from both. JPW's pulling & hooking was a wonder to behold. So max batting points again.
So after a pretty good tea (nice cake & proper cheese & pickle sarnies) away we went to try to get through the early batting. James Witt provided the youth with Gat at the other end providing the guile. As it happened, a couple of quick wickets from James got us started. A cracking opening spell - probably the best your roving reporter has seen him bowl this season. Despite Gat's guile being replaced with G Man's turn & bounce at the bottom end, a lengthy partnership then ensued providing both resistance & frustration, & with one of their first team players playing some lusty blows, there could have been a chance of them winning if it went on too long. But then Henry found an absolute peach to send the first teamer's middle stump cartwheeling (ok .... bit of poetic licence) & get us back in the game. More resistance followed & it was clear we were going to have to work hard to get max points. Enter Dan for the rest of his day: looping the ball up & inviting the aerial route, eventually the bait was taken through Gat's stunning full length dive taking it one handed (& believe me there's no poetic licence there )! Breakthrough. So then we were entertained by the angry young fast bowler who looked like he thought he could win it on his own. He was done for by a really good piece of cricket thinking on Henry's part & run out by the length of the pitch. After that it was just a case of who could get the most bonus points. We had them eight down at the end & may have forced the win with a handful more overs but it wasn't to be. Yet another draw & down a place or two in the table as all the other games had a result. Never mind.
