Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Dormans on Sat 16 Jun 2007 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost by 129 runs

Match report Edenbridge were brought down to earth with a bang this week against table toppers Dormansland. With the weather distinctly inclement there was an hours delay in starting this first versus second league match up but once a decision was made to start the game Dormansland skipper, John Henley, quickly elected to bat on winning the toss. Edenbridge opening attack of Gareth Fuller and the experienced Bob Langton bowled well but as would be expected with the ball sometimes wet the loose delivery was soundly punished by batsman at the top of their game. After an early wicket for Langton with Scott 'The Cheetah' Beaumont taking a good catch at first slip Dormanslands batsman took control with Dave Tribe providing a solid base for Helger, Philips and Morley to accelerate without too many difficulties. Edenbridge were severely hampered by the loss of Langton when a well struck shot hit him on the inside of the knee at a time when his medium pace was proving an awkward proposition for the visitors batting. Consequently, with the bowling attack a little depleted Fuller took on the added mantle bowling 17 overs before taking a well deserved rest and Brett Knapp bowled his left armers tidily at a time when Dormansland were looking to score quick runs. Dormansland positive play enabled them to declare after only 40 overs and set the home side a daunting 181 to win.
Unfortunately, this was not Edenbridges day and the loss of early wickets and in particular the top five batsman cheaply set the tone for the rest of the side. Despite stubborn defence from Tim Fuller who batted for well over an hour to try and stave off defeat the home side were eventually bowled out for 52 and an overwhelming defeat by 129 runs.
MEMORABLE MOMENT: Very few in a disappointing day for the home side but at least Bob Langton's injury was not as severe as first thought although he could do with a double knee transplant anyway judging by the look of them!
TEA: John Woodman's tea was extremely well received if a little over the top for a cricket match but hey the subs are £10! A market garden soup starter was followed by a choice of baked Fish, olive oil potatoes and herbs or lamb souvlaki but the dessert really hit the spot as Mrs. Woodman, dressed in silver service black apron, provided a wonderful soft-scoop Greek yoghurt ice cream with honey. Truly memorable if the batting was not.
