Palmers 2 v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 1.30

Match report At last a fine day for cricket!
With a much changed team. ( Much Thanks Mark Slack for traveling down from Edenbride to Hove at the last minute), we decided to have a bowl and see how we got on! On a belter of a track and with an outfield that was lightning fast we were up against it from the first ball. James and Henry stuck to the task and we picked up two early wickets. Their Skipper came in next and was promptly dropped flashing at one hard into the slips, which unfortunately proved to be costly as he freely hit boundaries and went onto score a 50 in a 3rd wicket partnership of 70, before being brilliantly caught in the deep by Josh Boakes off of Max Hills bowling. Tim Fuller snared their dangerous no 4 and we looked like we could be set to make in-roads into their middle order. Unfortunately their No 5 & 6 had different ideas and went onto put a frustrating partnership of 50 on in short time! Henry Kings and Josh Hill did manage to get one more wicket each before their skipper called them in declaring on 237 for 6.
Up against it Jordan and Boakes set about the task of trying to reach the big target set. Both players batted well and kept up with the required rate, reaching an impressive 131 opening stand from 25 overs before Dom went for a sharp single and was narrowly run out on 61.. Josh followed shortly after, caught behind for a superb innings of 71. With the foundation built Tim Fuller looked in the mood to continue to push on, unfortunately Henry Kings was run out on a makeable sharp single early on in that partnership and Tim got himself caught behind attempting to run one down to third man for the second week in a row. That brought Mark Slack, (true Edendbridge club man for traveling from Blossoms to Hove at the drop of hat!), and Max Hill to the crease. Both batted well putting on 49 and looking like they were going to take us home until Max had a rush of blood and went for a single to a ball that dropped at their keepers feet and was out by 10 yards! Unfortunately wickets fell quickly after that until Kieran ( I just want to go to sleep) Peters and Tom (You shall not pass) Wallis came to the crease and coolly saw out the last 3 overs for a worthy draw.
A superb effort from the whole team, nearly saw us pull off a famous victory.
Bodes well for the home game next week against the league leaders!
