Chiddingstone v Edenbridge Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 19 Jun 2011 at 2.30
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 86 runs

Match report A sunday when the weather allowed for a full day of cricket...needless to say the young Edenbridge team were keen for some cricket at last.
The game was away to Chiddingstone, and with only 10 players until 20 minutes before the match was due to begin we have to say thanks to Hamish for stepping in at the last moment, and for his excellent performance with bat, ball and especially in the field!
Captain Smith lost the toss but was told to pad up by the opposing skip for a bat...just what Steve wanted on the small pitch where he got his maiden century 2 years ago. So to the game...
Putman Jnr and Smith took to the crease...the small pitch and these two batting meant that runs were almost entirely from boundaries. In fact it took about half an hour for the first single to be hit. But Putters (21) was caught behind when chasing a ball outside the off-stump. This bought Levi to the crease. He started uncharacteristically slowly, making Steve run singles (HOW DARE HE)! This just meant Steve was swinging harder, and after a couple of 6s in quick succession Steve reached his century on what must be his favourite pitch. Keen for more he also went searching for the ball his hitting had lost. Eventually he went for one too many and was bowled for 123! AVERAGE AT BEST! This brought Dan to the crease. Having forgotten how to bat, it was hardly the most fluent of innings though it must be said. However, at the other end there was a mini batting collapse. After the fall of Levi (33) and the quick coming and going of both Bantin (GOLDEN DUCK) and Boakes (DUCK) we had fallen to an uncertain position after such a strong performance from the top order.
Dan (29) hit a few quickfire 4s before getting caught on the boundary. Hamish and Michael did well holding up an end before Lewis (7) (with his bad hand - after punching someone the night before...FAIL) hit a few shots at the end of the innings. We posted 236ao but thoughts that we needed to bowl well passed around the team, as we were wary of the size of the pitch. So, after tea, we took to the field...
We started well with Putman Snr and Levi both getting early wickets to restrict Chiddingstone to 14-2, both hitting the timbers early on. At this point our efforts stalled. Levi struggled with his run up (24 no balls were bowled - lets just say a lot came from him), and the batsman made a partnership of 54 before we eventually made the break through. As it was, the wicket came from Boakes as Bantin made up for his lacklustre batting with a fine catch at mid-off.
After this regular wickets tumbled with Boakes ending on figures of 4-35, as well as some key run outs, particularly the strong arm of Levi running out the dangerous left hander being a key moment.
The opposition collapsed to 95-7 before Levi returned to take two wickets, and another run out in courtesy of Steve and Lewis' teamwork. In the end, it was a comfortable 86 run victory, the first of the season, as we proved to be ruthless with both bat and ball. As such there is some quiet optimism for the rest of the season, if we can go for the Batin-esque position..."I don't play sport to make friends, I play sport to win"

DOD (Dick of the Day): George Bantin - not only for his golden duck but for also completely ruining the scoring! haha

MOM (Man of the Match): A century, a run out, a catch, and a great performance behind the stumps as well. All round you'd have to say he probably deserved it.

Thanks to Bobby "Dazzler" Langton for bringing Winston and abusing us all and Hamish for stepping in so late on and doing very well on his senior debut.
