Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v St. Francis on Sun 13 Jun 2010 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Having had this game re-arranged due to the rain a couple of weeks ago, the prospect of playing twice in a weekend was lessened by knowledge that we were sitting top of the league and the second team in second in their league.

Laying in wait for us today were St Francis, a team that on their day can make forty overs seem like a lifetime, however this year St Francis have not been their usual selves and having beaten them once already this season we were up for the game.

One point of admin for all you followers of Johnson match reports in the press, I sat out this game due to a slight hamstring strain on Saturday, my understudy and counterpart Seb Goodhead, I mean Goodhew, bloody Play Cricket website, was in charge and Dan Ott back from sabbatical leave, or University, took my place.

In a surprise move to us all St Francis chose to bat first, and then in a second surprise move, didn't try and hit everything out the park. Not deterred by this new tactic our bowlers set about their work beautifully and Matt Cox was the star turn again with 4 wickets in a very good five over spell. Hilly contributed well again collecting two and with excellent work from Luke and Emerson we bowled St Francis out for the first time I have seen, and only for 150. Again having seen yesterday we knew that wouldn't be an easy score to chase, however I will say again this isn't the same St Francis and with a lesser score their bowling line up is not as effective as it once was.

So to the chase, once again Tim and Jon got us off to a fantastic start, laying an excellent foundation before Jon felt to finally well taken catch, four drops in all by St Francis (you wonder if they had taken more catches whether the end would have been more close). It was an uncharacteristic shot from Jon and one I think was brought about him not wanting to listen to them talking in the field anymore and take an age before bowling each delivery. This was an innings however where we looked comfortable throughout and cameos from Seb, Emerson and Joycy brought the run rate down and then with some pushing and nerdling from Matt and Graham, with odd four thrown in for good measure, the game was won.

Top of the League and in the 1/4 finals of the cup. Excellent work chaps.

The next cup game will be away at Ardingly.

Funny moment: Everyone coming off the pitch after bowling and wanting to frame their bowling figures, Hilly - 8; 3; 15; 2

Champagne Moment: The team performace, another top effort in the field, superb work, keep it up

Tea: Gran was back today and came back straight away with a 9 1/2 / 10. When questioning Tim about how to get a 10, the response was "Try harder", expect something in your sandwiches next time Tim
