Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Smallfield on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report After two excellent team performances the previous weeks it was very important that we did not loose momentum. So it was a good job we didn't them.

With us sitting 3rd in the league and Smallfield 4th, this was always going to be a close game, and so it was. I was quite happy to loose the toss and field because after a bit of moisture the pitch looked quite green and certainly made it harder to get the ball away.

Again our bowlers were fantastic, limiting a team to 151 at Blossoms is a very good effort indeed. Matt Cox and Hilly did well at the top of the innings and never release the pressure forcing mistakes. It was then time for something different, and between them Dominic and Graham put together a very good spell of bowling that certainly helped as win the match. Graham was getting lovely flight and Dominic was cramping people for space. This pressure contributed to a collapse really from Smallfield from looking quite dangerous at 124 for 4 to being all out for 151. One slight disspointment on the day was our catching let us down for the first time this season, althought thankfully didn't cost us too much this time.

Getting off to a good start is always important, and you can't really ask more then for your opener to score 101*, and that is exactly what Jon Woodman did. He hit a terrific innings including 16 fours. Unfortunately though what made this run chase tense was the lack of support from those around him, and again for the first time this season our middle order callapsed. Smallfield did well to put on the pressure, however with a score of only 151 on the board we always felt that we should get the runs, and thanks to a controlled finish by JOn and Matt Cox, we got there with three wickets, three overs to spare and a new crease worn at the pavillion by the nervous captain.

Today was again another great team performace and one that has shown that even when we are not at our best we can win games.

Funny moment: I'm afraid I can't remember one this week - please send answers via email and I will add accordingly, Heskey starting for England?

Champagne moment: 101* for Mr Woodman, well batted

Tea: A first effort from Mr Joyce this week, an a good tea too, excellent sandwich fillings, football cakes for the worldcup even though he doesn't like football, and a well planned volume of food. A solid 7 1/2 / 10
