Palmers v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 75 runs

Match report Palmers is always a tricy place to go, and this proved to be the case once again on a surface that looked initially very good, and turned out to be actually quite slow and difficult to time.

After winning the toss I decided to bat, following recent weeks however, this did not prove to be as smooth as we had hoped and at 65 for 5 we were struggling. However, a feature of this season to date has been a real team spirit and never say never attitude. This week this was in the form of Hilly and Dom, who rescued our innings with a much need fifty plus partnership. This put us at least with a total to defend and then with the help of the rest of the tail, including a very good 29* from Mr Boakes off five overs and the longest three I have ever run in what looked like a very competitive score of 179. It just shows, bat 47 overs and the runs will come.

After a very average tea we set about bowling Palmers out, and it did not take long for this to start. Matt Cox has been bowling very well indeed this year, today was no different, excellent pace and bounce caught the openers out and in his six overs Matt had taken the top three. From the other end bowling down hill for the first time he could remember Hilly kept things very tight and well deserved his 2 wickets. However the most improved player of the year was yet to make an impact on the bowling. After a fine end of innings knock, Luke decided that wasn't enough and with figures of 5 for 12 off of 4.3 overs put in the best bowling performance of his Edenbridge career. In this spell there was a no ball hat trick, and a fantastic catch from Lewis Warburton. A really fine effort. From a short period early on that looked dangerous, to bowl this team out for 104 was a fantastic display.

Champagne moment: 29* and 5 for 12 for Mr Boakes, a player improving with every game

Funny Moment: It may not surprise everyone to know that Hilly was late, however this week in an effort to get to the ground on time Jon and Graham left with Hilly still talking. Doing the honourable Captain's duty I stayed behind. Having left a couple of minutes after the others and with excellent use of Joycy's, mine and an exchange student Tom Tom's knowledge we arrived at the ground a good ten minutes before the others. I have never seen a bigger grin on Hilly's face when saying down the phone to Graham "You have to pace yourself youngen's" and the phone being cut off. Clearly Jon's American sat nav loves the scenic route.

Tea: Not the best, and would really expect better from an ex-Edenbridger, only a kind 4/10 this week. Come on Nick, you can do better then that.
