St. Francis v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 May 2009 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report I know, I know, like buses these match reports. I think it is fair to say that Saturday saw a very good game of cricket in weather that deserved a lot less.

Losing the toss we were put into bat, and with the helps of lengthy contributions from our openers, Tim Cox 64 and Jon Woodman 70, and then from Graham Cox 41* we put on a good target total of 201.

It just so happens though that we were not just playing any old team, we were playing St Francis, a team who won the league and cup double last year, and bat in a way that means that a score of 500 in a 20/20 game is not safe. As in previous years though, our bowlers were not given the treatment with Levi and Luke bowling very well indeed with good control and agression picking up important wickets. Yes there were some excellent shots, however our bowlers showed control and our fielders were magnificent, Zahid on the boundary with consistently excellent throws and Graham Cox with a run out Collingwood would have been proud of. Unfortunately for endeavours St Francis were too strong, but it must be said that this was a much better performance then last year.

Tea: Do not get my started, by the tim my bads were off and I was in the pavillion there were all but two sandwiches left, melon, and a bit of cake. Quite simply, rubbish. 1/10.

For those of you sharp enough to notice I forgot to mention the score of Grahams tea in the last report, a score of 7/10 has been given.

Champagne moment: First the two that did not make it in;
1) After yet another bit of bad luck from Hilly's bowling he let out an almighty shout of frustration which put Tim into histerics and after looking at Tim left me with the unwanted task of giving the ball back to Hilly and getting told that "It wasn't funny".
2) Keeping on the subject of grunting, a dropped catch off Levi's bowling saw a shout of anger also, which few in the ranks felt gave the answer to a question long pondered over, "What was Hilly like when he was a teenager?"

However, the winner has to be Tim. It is always evident when Tim has got tired and had enough, as the bat starts to swing and the feet start to wondered down the wicket. What was funny about Saturday though was the number of times this wonder down the wicket was followed but a swoosh, a miss, and then a funny little dance back into the crease. Once this tom foolery had started Joycy had already put his gloves on and was standing up to go into bat. Brilliant.
