Edenbridge Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Chiddingstone on Sun 22 Jun 2008 at 2.30
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Well it was a game that we were praise worthy with the bat, and not good enough in the field.

We lost the toss and were put into bat, and with Luke Boakes and Levi Caruana unable to fulfil the same target as last weeks opening partnership, we looked to be rcking a little bit despite flashes of brilliance from Luke occasionally.
However, a few early wickets brought George Bantin to the crease and he showed that he can bat sensibly (I'm as shocked to be writing this as you are reading it!) He finished on 63 before he was "caught" at long-off! A strong effort that put us on our way. Dan Ott added 74 runs too, and we reached a score of 183 just short of our 2 and a half hours batting time. This seemed to be a more than reasonable total as the outfield was slow, and we were feeling good about atleast a draw in the game.

In fact, we then had the best start that we have ever had. Nick Jeffrey...we love you!!! First ball...yorker...gone! FANTASTIC! Then...after a short dot ball...an edge and Danny Ott caught low to his left behind the stumps (MY GOD IT WAS GOOD!) 0 for 2 and we looked to be cruising!

OR SO WE THOUGHT....

Unfortunately the next wicket did not fall until some 140 runs later, at which point hope and morale was almost gone! The next wicket came from Jack Barker not far from the end, which was a plain and simple LBW straight in front and even that took an eternity to be given!
By the end of the game hope was gone (as one batsman slogged his way to 117 not out), and the consolation of a late wicket for George Bantin, who had his man stumped by Danny Ott, did little to help rid us of disappointment of the fielding performance.

We lost by 6 wickets as we dropped catches, and wree generally shoddy in the field. But sod it...atleast me (Danny) and George got 50s each! That's all that's really important.

But we must work on the fielding to get that first win of the season!

COME ON THEN LADS!

P.S. We all know that the tea was fantastic, and it was given a resounding 9 out of 10 from those nice enough to vote for it!

Cheers Lads!
