Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v St Francis on Sat 10 May 2008 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost By 3 Wickets

Match report From previous experience the 1st XI knew that playing against St Francis was never going to be easy with a team who bat all the way down.
Having lost the toss and been put into bat John Woodman and Tim Cox stepped upto the mark with a terrific opening partnership of 70, until Coxy got out to a "unique" run out. The ball was thrown in, bounced off the bowlers palm, and on to the top of the wicket. It was a defiant knock of 42, but it was the start of the bad luck for the day. Other strong performances came from John Woodman (47), Joycie (30) and Seb Goohew (21), who pushed us onto 169 before being bowled out, with one bowler taking 7 of us back to the pavilion earlier than we hoped.

The start of the St Francis innings was tiring...in the fact that the ball found it's way to the boundary too often for the bowlers liking (see bowling figures for in depth analysis into the massacre). However, a gutsy fielding performance and key wickets from Hilly, and Johnson removed key batsman for us to get into "tail" which proved to be non-existent.
The field proved frustrating with catches going inches over, or inches short of a "safe" pair of hands! Edges were often found, but were only gathered by edenbridge over the VERY VERY DEEP BOUNDARY (thanks Graham)!!!

In the end, St Francis were 7 down thanks to a great spell by Tim cox (3/9), but scurried home with 4 overs left.

NOW....for the bit that we've all been waiting for!
TEAS!!!!!
I think that it's been generally accepted that Howard's gran is infamous for her teas! And with Graham Cox and John Woodman reliving the days when they would sit with bakewell tart, a cup of tea, and when remembering when they had hair it proved to be a good tea again.
There was some shock among the ranks when the doughnuts were found to be custard and not jam (in the words of Graham "a slight faux pas"), but the general opinion seemed to be ranging to about a 7.5! Not bad start for the league season.

One moment to remember: Andy Hill's diving C&B attempt, which seemed sure to break a few fingers, summed up sort of chances we were given. But I felt I should comment about his gazelle like athleticism of which we were all in awe!!!!

Good effort lads, and not a bad result against these guys I think we can agree!
