Match report COIN CAPERS AT ANSTY

The Mid Sussex Cricketing community was rocked to its core last Saturday following allegations of skullduggery after Jon "Fisty" Woodman finally won a toss ! Amid cheers from his team mates the coin finally came down his way ...... or did it ? Asked after the game, Fisty refused to reveal his call or the denomination & currency of the coin. There are fears that his dodgy five peseta piece had resurfaced.

So amid the whisperings & allegations play finally got under way with Coxy strapping on his knee brace rather than his thigh pad for once ! New ball pairing Henry 'Purple Spider" Kings, & Hilly Junior both bowled beautifully at Ansty's mixed doubles pairing. The female part of the pair hit the loose ball hard but Josh was more than good enough to have the junior partner fishing, prodding & finally walking having had his off stump uprooted. H finally got his reward for a string of dot balls & maidens when he had the number 3 caught at the wicket - well deserved. This then brought a second "maiden" to the wicket. The all girl partnership was split up though on the third ball after drinks, Gat inducing an edge & a fine low catch by Fisty, to send the opener back having completed a hard hit 50. A flurry of big shots, air shots edges & snicks then saw a rapid 50 partnership move Ansty into bonus points territory. Once again Gat's nagging line gained reward when one of the air shots resulted in stumps & bails flying rather than ball. Mike Martin had the second of the girls caught & bowled & Ollie Hill had the third LBW in a good late spell. The innings came to an end just short of maximum points when Josh's fine bit of fielding & throw resulted in a run out off the last ball.

Special mention should be made of H's & Josh's fine opening spells: H completing 15 overs off the reel deserved more than his one wicket & tea time fag. Josh kept up the family tradition of bowling beautifully but ending up one-fer.

Tea was a bit of a funny affair. More DIY than cordon-bleu, with bits of french bread, cheese & ham. Very odd ! Almost Palmers-like !

Coxy & Woody opened up as usual, to be confronted by one of the girlies opening the bowling. Steady but nothing startling to be honest. Neither looked in much bother until Woody got one that bounced a bit more than he thought & was caught pulling to mid wicket. After that, things began to slow & we started to fall behind the clock. Coxy, trying to force the pace, holed out to deep mid wicket. Ollie looked good with a couple of cracking fours down the ground, but then missed one ! Joyce clubbed a huge six over long on but then went back against the girlie spinner further than Gary Balance to Nathan Lyon. Rather than late cutting, he succeeded only in felling his leg stump like a lumberjack felling a lonesome pine. Out hit wicket. After that it was down to Chris "coldplay" Martin & H to display admirable restraint in holding out for the draw.

Sadly we didn't extact the revenge that our absent Hon Secretary (on duty with the 1s) would have liked against the girls he lost to earlier in the season.

(PS: Thanks go to our esteemed Chairman for, once again, guesting & manning the book)
