Palmers II v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday2nd XI on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 1.30
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won By 121 Runs

Match report With our unreliable skipper absent, we traveled down to face a strong opposition with only nine men. After a stormy morning, the weather cleared leaving a sunny afternoon. Palmers won the toss and decided to bowl, a decision they would come to regret heavily.

We started our innings well, with Joycey smashing boundaries to all parts, we raced to 50 early on before Joyce fell for a quick 29. Mike came to the crease playing his first game for the 2s, and built a solid partnership with Josh, taking the score beyond 100. Despite Mike being bowled for 30, the scoreboard continued to tick over at a good rate with a lot of good running and a steady flow of boundaries. Max gave Palmers several chances, but they failed to capitalize with some poor catching, allowing him to score 41 before he played one shot too many. Ben and Henry came in late on to chip in with some quick runs in the middle order to help take our score to 259. Josh finished unbeaten on 109, anchoring the innings throughout.

Ben and Henry opened the bowling, with Henry ripping into their top order with some aggressive bowling taking three very early wickets in his first couple of overs reducing Palmer to 1 for 3. Palmers's No.5 came in on the counter, swinging at everything! Despite everything being aerial he failed to find a fielder. With our openers still bowling extremely well we continued to build pressure and it was not long before Ben got his reward with some impressive swing bowling taking two wickets in two balls to leave Palmers 38 for 5. Palmer's wicket keeper came in and started to build Palmer's only partnership of the innings until Ben found his outside edge with an away swinging delivery, Josh done the rest at first slip with a great diving catch. Ben then took his forth wicket shortly after, their No.5 continued to smashed boundaries, with Henry unfortunate to take most of the punishment. Despite the win out of reach their tail showed some resistance, frustrating us with deliveries unbelievably missing the stumps and outside edge on numerous occasions. We changed it up and brought James into the attack, and finally the break through came. With eight overs left Ben picked up his fifth wicket and finished the game trapping their No.5 in front lbw. Palmers finished on 138 mainly due to 92 from R.Ferrier. This was a great win and perfect batting, bowling and fielding performance from everyone, with us being very clinical in the field taking all our catches and continually pressuring batsman throughout. Top effort lads!!!
