Cudham Wyse v Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 24 Apr 2010 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Lost by 10 runs

Match report Another Spring has sprung, another net session has been poorly attended, another fifty phone calls to produce a team for a friendly, ah there is the smell of a new season of cricket in the 1st team at Edenbridge.

Lovely ground Cudham, I enjoy playing there for the first game of the season as it has lots of places for me to explore while we are batting and usually greets us in glorious sunshine, and today was no different, a fantastic day in which to open our account.

This Saturday also welcomed back the services of Matt Cox, who already has had a positive impact on the team, moving senior Cox out of the fielding ring and to third man (unfortunately you can still hear the moaning from there).

To the game; I lost the toss and we were asked to field, now I think this was one of our best fielding performances for a while, all the bowlers kept it tight and Matt Cox bowled really well for 3 wickets. Henry Kings should also get a mention for taking a good catch and bowling in a very conttolled manner, he fully deserved his wicket and I hope he can build on that for the season. I think we all felt that in restricting Cudham to 143 from 40 overs we had done very well.

Then it came to the batting, unfortunately this did not go so well and I believe there were a number of cheap wickets given away that I hope not to see for the rest of the season. Graham Cox did an excellent job battling away for 35* and what's most frustrating is that we were always ahead of the run rate and right in contension up until the last wicket.

Alas, hopefully we will put this performace behind us and learn to bat more responsibly as a team.

As always there will be a champagne moment, tea score and funny moment,

Champagne moment: Hard to beat this one, I think we all appreciated the private fly past of a Spitfire whilst we were fielding

Tea: 6/10, solid start, but I always feel they could do better and resent having to do our own drinks

Funny moment: An extremely freak wicket for Joycy, I don't think he will ever again chip a ball over his shoulder into the wicket keepers armpit.

I'm sure there are spelling mistakes here, and I fully expect and would be disappointed not to pick up on them. As usual send to same email address.
