Edenbridge Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Staplefield on Sat 22 May 2010 at 2.00
Edenbridge Cricket Club Won by 76 runs

Match report What a difference a week makes. First of all I would like to thank Tom Dickens (or A.N. Other) for stepping in right at the last minuet with a hangover on Saturday at 1.30pm. Also I hope Zahid your arm heals quickly so you can still enjoy a good season. Tom fielded very well indeed.

With the second toss of the season won I decided to bat, and what an innings we had. Tim Cox laying claim back for his opening spot with a very good 75 and Joycy getting his first big runs of the season in what was an important stand there in the middle. The innings was constructed very well and support was also made by Seb and Matt Cox. With a score of 211 on a very hot day and enough hints from Hilly scoring and Tim Cox umpiring I made the decision on my own to declare and have as much time as we could.

This laid the foundations to what would prove for most of the second innings a very exciting game where any result was possible. Fortunately for us we managed to take important wickets at key moments and never let a partnership. Other then myself, our bowlers really stuck at the task and didn't let anyone get settled. Once more Matt Cox must get mentioned for his excellent pace and important wickets, however equally for his role at the end Dominic Jordan took vital wickets in a top spell that put us back in contention when the draw looked the most likely result.

Funny Moment: Like father like son really, Tim and Matt that is, and the reason why the end of the game shall be mentioned here. With one wicket remaining and only 6.3 overs remaining the Staplefield captain played an innocent defensive shot to Matt at cover. Matt picked the ball up aimed at the stumps indicating to the batsman he was going to throw, waited a bit longer, and then threw and hit the stumps. What we didn't realise was that he was out his crease and all but a couple of us knew what had happened. The umpire at square leg gave it and the game was won. Excellent cricket all round and a very good 30 point win.

Champagne moment: Coxy in a determined innings to get his spot back, hitting some excellent shots for 75.

Tea: 8/10 Graham this week, and a strong effort with very nice sandwiches and very well measured so there was not a lot of waste and meant less clearing up for me.

Apologies if there are spelling mistakes or just mistakes, I've written this whilst watching the tv.
